Automatic EIGRP summarization for IPv4 is disabled by default as of versions 15.0 (1) M and 12.2 (33) of Cisco IOS . To enable automatic EIGRP summarization, use the auto- summary command in router configuration mode. Use the show ip protocols command to verify the status of automatic summarization.
In this type of configuration , the access server must have that same summary route that points to the access server Null0 interface. If not, routing loops can occur when outside hosts attempt to reach IP addresses not currently assigned to a dialed in client but are part of the summary route.

Automatic summarization is practically unusable in today's networks as it is deactivated by default since the IOS release 15.0 (1)M. In older IOS versions, the following command should be used in the EIGRP configuration to deactivate it : Manual summarization allows summarizing routes at any chosen router and its specific interface in the network.
