Sri Lanka Paddy Storage Facilities Cleaning

A nationwide paddy storage cleaning programme has been organised by all Security Force Headquarters from 18 January 2025 to 27 January 2025. As part of this initiative, the Army commenced cleaning and minor renovations at several storage facilities yesterday (18 January 2025), to ensure the readiness of the facilities for the forthcoming paddy. Following the procurement, the government has also planned to utilise 209 paddy storage facilities owned by the Paddy Marketing Board. Due to the prolonged disuse of these paddy storages and surrounding premises, cleaning and minor renovations are essentially required to ensure the suitable use. This initiative, which is part of the broader "Clean Sri Lanka" programme, is being carried out under the supervision of the Defence Secretary. As part of this initiative, the Army began cleaning and carrying out minor renovations at several storage facilities yesterday to ensure they are ready for the forthcoming paddy storage requirements. This programme is being implemented in parallel with the ongoing 'Clean Sri Lanka' National Programme.

The government has enlisted the Sri Lanka Army to clean and conduct minor repairs on paddy warehouses across the country as part of the ongoing Clean Sri Lanka national program. This initiative aligns with the government's plan to purchase and store the Maha season's paddy harvest in 209 warehouses managed by the Paddy Marketing Board. The Sri Lanka Army has been mobilised to assist in the programme to purchase paddy from the upcoming Maha Season harvest.
