Ever wondered if you can place your heavy-duty Blackstone griddle on a flimsy plastic table? It's a valid question, given the weight and heat involved. Let's delve into this, ensuring your griddle and table both serve you well for years to come.
Understanding the Weight and Heat Factor
Blackstone griddles are robust, designed to withstand high heat and heavy use. The 36-inch model, for instance, weighs around 128 pounds (58 kg) and can reach temperatures up to 500°F (260°C). This heat and weight can pose a challenge to less sturdy surfaces.
Why Plastic Tables Might Not Cut It
Plastic tables are lightweight and affordable, but they're not built to bear the weight and heat of a Blackstone griddle. Here's why:
- Weight Bearing: Plastic tables are not designed to support heavy objects. The weight of the griddle, along with the food and utensils, could cause the table to buckle or break.
- Heat Resistance: Most plastics start to deform or melt at temperatures much lower than those reached on a Blackstone griddle. This could lead to damage to the table and potentially cause a safety hazard.
Alternatives to Plastic Tables
If you're set on using a table, consider these alternatives:
Metal Tables
Sturdy metal tables, like those made of stainless steel or aluminum, can withstand the weight and heat of a Blackstone griddle. They're also easy to clean, which is a plus when dealing with greasy griddle surfaces.
Griddle Carts
Blackstone offers griddle carts designed specifically for their products. These carts are made of heavy-duty steel, have large wheels for easy movement, and can withstand the heat and weight of the griddle. They also come with side shelves for added convenience.
Safety First: Protecting Your Table
If you insist on using a plastic table, there are some precautions you can take to minimize the risk of damage:
- Use a heat-resistant mat or griddle cover to protect the table from heat.
- Ensure the table is level to prevent the griddle from tilting and causing uneven heat distribution.
- Regularly inspect the table for signs of wear or damage.
Remember, while these precautions can help, they don't guarantee the safety of your plastic table. It's always best to use a surface designed to withstand the heat and weight of your Blackstone griddle.
