Materials Needed for Your DIY Nok Hockey Table
Before you start, gather all the necessary materials. Here's a list to help you:
- Plywood (3/4" thick, 4' x 8' sheet)
- MDF (1/2" thick, 2' x 4' sheet)
- 2x4 lumber (8' long)
- 2x2 lumber (8' long)
- 1/4" Plexiglass or tempered glass (4' x 8' sheet)
- Rubber shelf liner or felt
- 2" casters with brakes
- Wood glue
- Screws (1-1/4" and 2-1/2")
- Wood filler
- Sandpaper (120 and 220 grit)

Designing Your DIY Nok Hockey Table
Before you start cutting, decide on the dimensions of your table. A standard Nok Hockey table is 8 feet long and 2 feet wide, but you can adjust these measurements based on the space you have available. Once you've decided on the size, sketch out a design or use a digital tool to plan your cuts.
Building the Table Frame
Using your 2x4 lumber, cut and assemble the frame of your table. You'll need two long pieces for the length and two shorter pieces for the width. Use wood glue and 2-1/2" screws to connect the pieces. Make sure your corners are square by measuring diagonally from corner to corner.
Creating the Table Top
Cut your plywood to match the dimensions of your table frame. This will be the base of your table. Next, cut your MDF to create the playing surface. You'll want this to be slightly smaller than the plywood base to allow for the sides of the table. Attach the MDF to the plywood using wood glue and 1-1/4" screws.
Installing the Playing Surface
Cut your Plexiglass or tempered glass to match the dimensions of your MDF playing surface. This will be the smooth surface where the game is played. Use rubber shelf liner or felt on the bottom of the glass to prevent it from scratching the MDF. Place the glass onto the MDF and secure it with small screws or brackets.
Adding the Legs and Casters
Cut your 2x2 lumber into four legs, each about 2-1/2" to 3" long. Attach one leg to each corner of your table frame using wood glue and 2-1/2" screws. Next, attach a caster to the bottom of each leg using screws. These will make it easy to move your table around.
Finishing Touches
Use wood filler to fill any holes or gaps, then sand the entire table smooth with 120 grit sandpaper. For a smooth finish, sand again with 220 grit sandpaper. If desired, paint or stain your table to match your room's decor. Once the paint or stain is dry, your DIY Nok Hockey table is ready for play!
Setting Up the Playing Area
To set up your table for play, you'll need a hockey puck and two mallets. Place the puck in the center of the table, and each player takes a mallet. The objective is to hit the puck into your opponent's goal. The first player to reach 11 points wins the game. Enjoy your new DIY Nok Hockey table!
