Create a Stylish DIY Table: Easy and Budget-Friendly

Materials Needed

Step 1: Design and Measure
First, decide on the size and style of your table. For this project, we'll create a simple farmhouse-style table that's 48" long, 24" wide, and 30" tall. Use a tape measure and pencil to mark the lengths of your lumber pieces according to the cut list below.

Step 2: Cut the Lumber
Using a miter saw or circular saw, cut the lumber pieces according to the cut list. Ensure you're cutting along the marked lines and following safety guidelines when operating power tools.
Step 3: Assemble the Legs and Apron
Attach the apron pieces to the legs using wood glue and 1-1/4" pocket hole screws. First, mark the center of each leg, then attach the apron pieces using the Kreg Jig to create pocket holes. Apply glue to the joints, align the pieces, and secure them with screws. Repeat this process for all four legs and the apron pieces.
Step 4: Build the Tabletop
Lay out the tabletop pieces in the desired pattern, applying wood glue between each piece. Use clamps to secure the pieces together while the glue dries. Once dry, sand the tabletop smooth with 120-grit sandpaper, then lightly sand with 220-grit for a smooth finish.
Step 5: Attach the Tabletop to the Base
Flip the table base upside down and attach the tabletop using 1-1/4" wood screws. Pre-drill holes to prevent the wood from splitting, then secure the tabletop to the base. Allow the screws to sit slightly below the surface of the wood, and fill any holes with wood filler if necessary.
Step 6: Finish the Table
Sand the entire table with 220-grit sandpaper, then apply your desired finish – stain, paint, or leave it natural. Allow the finish to dry according to the manufacturer's instructions. Finally, apply a coat of polyurethane to protect the table and provide a durable surface.
