Create a Mobile DIY Table: A Step-by-Step Guide
Transform your space with a versatile DIY table on wheels. This project combines functionality and style, allowing you to easily move your table around as needed. Whether you're creating a mobile workstation, a dining table, or an additional surface for your living room, this guide will help you build the perfect piece to suit your needs.
Materials and Tools
- Plywood (3/4" thick, 48" x 96")
- 2x4 lumber (8' long)
- 4 casters with brakes (3" or 4" size)
- Wood glue
- 1-1/4" pocket hole screws
- 1-1/4" wood screws
- Stainless steel screws (for casters)
- Wood filler
- Sandpaper (120-grit and 220-grit)
- Paint or stain (optional)
- Clamps
- Pocket hole jig
- Circular saw
- Drill
- Screwdriver
- Tape measure
- Pencil
Design and Measurements
For this project, we'll create a table that's 30" wide, 18" deep, and 29" tall. You can adjust these measurements to fit your specific needs. We'll also add a shelf underneath for extra storage.

Assembly
Build the Table Top
Cut the table top from your plywood sheet. Sand any rough edges using 120-grit sandpaper.
Attach the Apron Pieces
Using your pocket hole jig, create pocket holes on the inside of the table apron pieces (front, back, and sides). Attach the aprons to the table top using 1-1/4" pocket hole screws and wood glue. Ensure the aprons are flush with the edges of the table top.
Attach the Legs
Mark the center point of each leg on the inside of the table aprons. Drill pilot holes and attach the legs using 1-1/4" wood screws. Make sure the legs are perpendicular to the table top.
Add the Shelf
Attach the shelf supports to the inside of the table aprons, 6" from the bottom. Place the shelf on top of the supports and secure it with wood glue and 1-1/4" wood screws.
Attach the Casters
Flip the table upside down. Mark the center point of each caster on the bottom of the legs. Drill pilot holes and attach the casters using stainless steel screws. Make sure the casters have brakes to keep the table stable when not in use.
Finishing Touches
Fill any holes or gaps with wood filler and allow it to dry. Sand the entire table using 220-grit sandpaper. Apply paint or stain (if desired) and let it dry completely. Your DIY table on wheels is now ready to use and move around as needed!
