Create a Stylish and Functional DIY Table with Shelf

Design Your Table
First, decide on the dimensions of your table and shelf. Consider the space you have available and the look you want to achieve. Sketch out your design, including the placement of the legs and shelf supports. For this example, let's assume you're creating a table that's 48" long, 24" wide, and 30" tall, with a shelf that's 12" deep and spans the width of the table.
Build the Table Top and Shelf
Start by building the table top and shelf using the plywood. You can cut the pieces to size using a circular saw or have them cut at your local hardware store. Once you have your pieces, use wood glue and clamps to attach them together, ensuring they're flush and square. Allow the glue to dry according to the package instructions.
Create the Legs and Shelf Supports
Next, cut your 2x4 lumber into the following pieces:

Attach the legs to the underside of the table top, spacing them evenly apart.
Next, attach the shelf supports to the legs using 2-1/2" screws. Position the supports so that the shelf will be 12" below the table top. Again, drill pilot holes to prevent splitting.
Add the Shelf and Finish the Table
Once the legs and shelf supports are securely attached, place the shelf on top of the supports and secure it with wood glue and 1-1/4" screws. Allow the glue to dry.
Now it's time to finish your table. Sand any rough edges or surfaces using 120-grit sandpaper. If desired, paint or stain the table to match your home decor. Allow the paint or stain to dry completely before using the table.
