Bird's Eye View: The Ultimate Guide to Drawing a Toilet From Above

Exploring the Art of Toilet Drawing from Above: A Unique Perspective

In the realm of art, there are countless subjects to explore, but few are as unique and unexpected as the toilet. Yes, you read that right. Toilet drawings, particularly those done from an aerial perspective, have gained traction in recent years, sparking curiosity and intrigue among art enthusiasts. This article delves into the fascinating world of toilet drawing from above, exploring its origins, techniques, and why it's capturing the imagination of artists and viewers alike.

Understanding the Aerial Toilet Perspective

Toilet drawing from above, also known as the aerial perspective, involves creating a two-dimensional representation of a toilet from a bird's eye view. This perspective is not new, as it has been used in technical drawings and blueprints for centuries. However, it's the artistic interpretation of this perspective that has recently come to the fore.

At its core, the aerial toilet drawing is a study in geometry and perspective. The toilet, with its distinct shape and components, offers a unique challenge for artists. The cistern, the bowl, the seat, and the surrounding area all need to be accurately represented in two dimensions while maintaining the illusion of depth.

Origins and Inspiration

The exact origins of toilet drawing from above as an art form are unclear, but it's believed to have emerged from the world of street art and graffiti. Artists, seeking to create something unique and unexpected, began incorporating toilets into their work. Some attribute the trend to the work of French street artist Invader, known for his pixelated tile mosaics that often include toilets.

However, it's important to note that the use of toilets in art is not a new phenomenon. Throughout history, artists have used the toilet as a symbol or motif in their work. From the ancient Romans to modern-day pop artists like Andy Warhol, the toilet has been a recurring subject in art. The aerial perspective is simply a new way of looking at this old subject.

Techniques and Styles

The techniques used in toilet drawing from above vary greatly depending on the artist and their style. Some artists use traditional drawing materials like pencils, pens, and paper, while others use digital tools to create their designs. The style can range from photorealistic to abstract, with some artists incorporating elements of surrealism or fantasy into their work.

One of the most intriguing aspects of this art form is the use of perspective. Artists must decide how much of the toilet to show and from what angle. Some choose to show the entire toilet, while others focus on just a part of it. The angle of the perspective can also vary, with some drawings showing the toilet from directly above, and others at a slight angle.

Why Toilets? The Appeal of the Unusual Subject Matter

So, why toilets? Why not draw something more conventional, like a landscape or a portrait? The answer lies in the unexpected and the unusual. Toilets are not typically considered art subjects, which makes them a refreshing and intriguing choice. They also offer a challenge to artists, who must find ways to make something functional and often overlooked into something beautiful and thought-provoking.

Moreover, toilets are universal. They are found in almost every home, office, and public space. This ubiquity makes them a relatable subject, one that everyone can understand and appreciate. Yet, despite their familiarity, toilets remain shrouded in a certain degree of taboo, adding an element of intrigue and controversy to their artistic portrayal.

Toilet Drawing from Above in Pop Culture

The toilet drawing from above has also made its way into popular culture. It's been featured in music videos, TV shows, and even in the logo of a popular toilet cleaning brand. This mainstream acceptance is a testament to the art form's ability to capture the public imagination.

However, it's important to note that while toilet drawing from above has gained popularity, it's still a niche art form. It's not something you're likely to see in a traditional art gallery or museum. Instead, it thrives in the world of street art, social media, and online communities of artists.
