The N20 isn't terrible as long as you don't let the timing chains cause you trouble. Oil pump/balance shaft assemblies were also an issue early on, especially in the x drive models. Other than that the issue with the N20 is it's a boosted small engine, and it just won't last as long as the naturally aspirated engines.
