A Chiropractor is an alternative health care practitioner focused on the diagnostic and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders, with an interest in therapy through manual manipulation and/or manual adjustment of the soft spine. Chiropractors are often thought of as alternative practitioners because they do not use drugs or surgery and instead encourage patients to seek self-treatment to achieve health and wellness. Their belief systems include the idea that the body has the power to heal itself and that disease is a result of misalignment of the skeletal systems. They also believe that spinal manipulation can correct subluxations in the neuromusculoskeletal system and restore normal function. Chiropractors use their hands to manipulate the spine and their fingers and thumbs are designed for more precise movements. Some chiropractors use their hands for soothing exercises and manual adjustments while others perform invasive procedures like an arthroscopic approach, which requires the chiropractor to make a small incision in the back.

The use of massage and other pressure point techniques is also common in the practice of chiropractic care. The purpose of sudden force applied to the spine by a chiropractor during a chiropractic adjustment is to release the nerve interference caused by the joint stiffness or inflammation. Chiropractors are trained to identify and treat patients with common complaints such as back pain, neck pain, and ear pain. Chiropractic care is often thought of as an alternative medicine. There are many forms of manipulation, stretching, heat and ice applications, nutritional counseling, breathing exercises, and other methods of dealing with pain. Chiropractors can help patients control pain by helping the body return to normal range of motion, strengthen weak muscles, improve muscle tone, reduce pain and swelling, and reduce or eliminate muscle spasms. Chiropractors are also trained to detect and report any problems that may need to be treated in terms of alignment, health, and musculoskeletal integrity.

Chiropractic professionals treat many different conditions affecting the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system. Chiropractic professionals can also compliment the other traditional medical treatment you receive from your doctor. A chiropractic doctor can treat back and neck pain, menstrual pain, nerve root problems, shoulder pain, and even earaches. During a chiropractic consultation, the chiropractor will begin with a thorough examination to determine what the source of your symptoms is. The doctor may ask you questions about your medical history and ask you to provide documentation of your symptoms. Then, he or she will likely perform some simple tests to assess your spinal cord health. Finally, the doctor will make an assessment of the types of adjustments that could be appropriate for your problem. chiropractic care is not an alternative medicine or a specialty that is only used for cosmetic issues. Many chiropractic professionals use techniques such as spinal manipulation, ultrasound, laser therapy, and manual therapy to help correct the various problems affecting the spine and the musculoskeletal system as a whole. Other practices that chiropractors commonly use include nutritional supplements and lifestyle counseling. Chiropractic care is appropriate for patients who are dealing with acute or chronic problems that affect their ability to function normally.

Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic Care, also known as chiropractic care, is a discipline of medical care that emphasizes interactions of the musculoskeletal system and the spinal cord, including the surrounding soft tissues. Doctors of chiropractic (or chiropractic doctors) specialize in non-invasive treatments for various systems and ailments that can include: Back pain, joint pain, headaches, migraine headaches, neck pain, and many other conditions. The primary goal of chiropractic care is to reduce pain, improve function, and decrease swelling in the human body. In addition, chiropractic care can be used to treat subluxations, neuromusculoskeletal dysfunctions, and other conditions. One of the most common modalities chiropractic doctors use is chiropractic therapy. Chiropractic therapy, also known as chiropractic care, involves chiropractic spinal manipulation or adjustment to relieve pain, manipulate movement in the body, and/or adjust the spine so that it is aligned properly. Some chiropractic therapists use hand pressure, electric stimulation, ultrasound, and laser therapy to perform chiropractic therapy.

Many chiropractic therapists are licensed by the state in which they practice, and others are not licensed at all. Most chiropractic therapists perform chiropractic care on an outpatient basis, visiting patients only when needed for treatment. A chiropractor may also refer their patients to an expert for diagnostic imaging such as x-rays, MRI scans, and CT (computerized tomography) scans. In some chiropractic offices, diagnostic imaging is carried out in the office itself, while in other offices, such as those found in hospitals or spas, diagnostic imaging is delivered to a specific chiropractic office where the patient will be seen by a chiropractic physician. If you have been seeing your chiropractor for your chronic neck pain for several months or more, he or she may have recommended an MRI or CT scan. It is important that your chiropractor or chiropractic doctor give you a detailed written report of your treatment so you know what diagnostic imaging was used in order to determine the cause of your pain.
