The paint colors that made the E36 and E46 M3 so memorable? Well, BMW is bringing some of them back. Dakar Yellow, Imola Red, Laguna Seca Blue and Technoviolet all make a return for 2026 as paint options for the latest M3. The catch?

With BMW Individual Dakar Yellow non-metallic, even a road trip under cloud is brightened by rays from the West African sun. This M specific paint finish made its debut on the body of the BMW M3 E36 and henceforth became an integral part of the BMW Individual colour range. Now that BMW's configurator for this model is live, we can see what's new, and the selection includes a couple of heritage colors popularized by the legendary E36 and E46 M3 models.

The 2026 BMW M3 is available in heritage-inspired paint colors, including Dakar Yellow II and Technoviolet Metallic. The unicorn Dakar Yellow M3 sedan makes it to Colorado. But this car is anything but common: It's a manual-transmission 1998 M3 sedan (or M3/4/5 for M3, four-door, five-speed manual) finished in Dakar Yellow II over Magma leather with only 80,000 miles on the clock.
