They required an interdisciplinary approach. It was usually not possible to determine in advance which disciplines could best contribute. Accordingly, H-STAR was not based on a traditional membership model. All Stanford faculty were potentially H-STAR researchers. The administrative and financial support staff of H-STAR provided help and support for faculty in proposal preparation and grant management.
