The iX5 Hydrogen is a concept vehicle that unites BMW's precision engineering and agility with a new drivetrain: hydrogen propulsion. The next-gen setup takes up 25% less space. Underpinning the BMW X5-based hydrogen car is a framework of two hydrogen tanks, the fuel cells and the electric motor. Inside the fuel cell, hydrogen from the tanks reacts with oxygen from the atmosphere to produce electricity to power the motor.
