Hyundai Rotem Company, often referred to as Hyundai Rotem (Korean: 현대로템; RR: Hyeondae Rotem), is a South Korean manufacturer of railway rolling stock, railway signalling, defense products and plant equipment. On Wednesday (Nov 18), Hyundai Rotem and BEML (earlier known as Bharat Earth Movers Limited) rolled out the first locally produced train for the Delhi Metro's new Phase III lines from BEML's Bangalore plant! This train is part of the 81 train-set (486 coach) contract that the Delhi Metro Rail Corp had signed with Hyundai Rotem in 2013 to run exclusively on its new Pink and Magenta lines. BEML has delivered more than 2,000 metro cars to Indian cities in a consortium with Mitsubishi and South Korean Hyundai Rotem.

The scope of work includes design, manufacture, supply, testing, and commissioning of 80 nos. broad-gauge cars compatible with existing 'RS1' type trains supplied by Mitushubishi-Rotem-Mitshubishi (MRM) consortium. The trains, built by Korean company Hyundai Rotem, are being partly manufactured in India by Bharat Earth Movers Limited, a public sector undertaking.

BANGALORE Metro Rail Corporation has issued an invitation to tender for a contract to lengthen its fleet of 50 three-car trains, which were supplied by a consortium of BEML, Mitsubishi and Hyundai Rotem for the initial phase of the network.

The order will comprise 63 vehicles for the Purple Line and 87 cars for the Green Line. As mentioned previously, as per the agreement between Hyundai Rotem & BEML, the initial 20 train-sets (120 coaches) were manufactured & delivered from Changwon, South Korea while the remaining 61 train-sets (366 coaches) are currently being manufactured (see pics) at BEML's plant in Bangalore with Hyundai Rotem's assistance. Seven bidders participated at the international tender, and BEML submitted the lowest offer. The other six bidders were Alstom, Bombardier, CAF, CRRC, Titagarh, and Hyundai Rotem. India's Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs is focused on metro market development and production localisation.
