Hyundai Rotem has been working on the Egyptian rolling stock market for ten years, having received in 2012 its first contract worth $250 mln for the supply of 20 nine. The Arab Organization for Industrialization's (AOI) SEMAF railway equipment factory, in collaboration with South Korea's Hyundai Rotem, has successfully manufactured 10 air. EGYPT's National Company for Railroad Industries (NIRC) and Hyundai Rotem have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to share expertise and knowledge, and increase the localisation of production in Egypt.

The MoU was signed by NIRC managing director, Dr Ahmed Fikri Abdel-Wahab, Hyundai Rotem. Hyundai Rotem is a South Korean company manufacturing rolling stock, defense products and plant equipment. It is part of the Hyundai Motor Group.
