In 2012 the North Carolina General Assembly adopted the Eastern Tiger Swallowtail as the official State Butterfly of North Carolina. The Eastern Tiger Swallowtail is native to North America and is considered the first North American butterfly to have been drawn. It was drawn by John White who was the Governor of the Roanoke Island Colony. Eastern Tiger Swallowtails have brightly colored yellow.
