These changes turned Piccolo's blood green. A fact that points towards this color change being a blunder is that Piccolo's blood is recolored to purple in the first episode of Dragon Ball Kai, during the recap of the 23rd Tenkaichi Budoukai. This is a really simple suggestion but how about changing the blood colours so they match the characters? Goku, Gohan, Vegeta, Trunks and Frieza's are all fine Piccolo's is purple Cell's is the same colour as headcrab blood (so you can just use that) Buu didn't bleed so his should be transparent Like I said, real simple.

There's nothing stating exactly what they are, but for what it's worth, I've always personally seen them as some sort of chitin, myself (the hard, shell-like fiber usually found on insects' exoskeletons).
