The iliacus muscle, which merges with the Psoas Major and inserts onto the Femur, is often paired with it. These two muscles are known together as the iliopsoas or iliopsoas muscle.
It is especially important to stretch throughout the day if you have a sedentary lifestyle or job that requires you to sit for long periods of time. Hip-opening stretches are also recommended before running, strength training, and playing sports.

However, this seems to be one of those stretches that I see a lot of people either performing incorrectly or too aggressively.
