- Drill
- Jigsaw
- Pocket hole jig
- Tape measure
Design and Measurements
For this DIY folding end table, we'll create a simple, rectangular table with a foldable top. Here's a suggested design and measurements:

| Part | Dimensions (L x W x H) |
|---|---|
| Table top | 18" x 12" x 1 1/2" |
| Legs | 18" x 2" x 1 1/2" |
| Support braces | 12" x 2" x 1 1/2" |
Cutting the Pieces
Using a jigsaw, cut the table top, legs, and support braces according to the measurements above. You'll need two of each piece.
Assembling the Legs
Apply wood glue to one of the long edges of a leg piece. Align it with another leg piece, ensuring the edges are flush. Clamp them together and let the glue dry. Repeat with the remaining two leg pieces. Once dry, use 1 1/4" wood screws to reinforce the joints.
Creating the Pocket Holes
Using a pocket hole jig, create pocket holes on the inside of the support braces, 1" from the top edge. These will be used to attach the legs to the table top.

Attaching the Legs and Hinges
Apply wood glue to the top edge of the assembled legs. Position them on the underside of the table top, 1" from the edges. Attach them using 1 1/4" pocket hole screws. Next, attach the support braces to the legs using 1 1/4" wood screws. Finally, attach the piano hinge to the table top and one of the legs, ensuring it's centered and flush with the edge.
Adding the Furniture Hinges and Knobs
Attach the furniture hinges to the other leg and the table top, aligning them with the piano hinge. This will allow the table top to fold down. Finally, attach the furniture knobs to the underside of the table top, near the hinges. These will serve as handles to lift the table top when folding it down.
Finishing Touches
Fill any holes or gaps with wood filler, let it dry, and sand the entire table smooth. If desired, stain or paint the table to match your decor. Allow it to dry completely before using.
Enjoy your new DIY folding end table! It's not only functional but also a testament to your craftsmanship. Happy creating!
