Materials Needed
- Marble slab (thickness: 1.5-2 inches, size: 48" x 24")
- Two pieces of 2x4 lumber (8 feet each)
- Four pieces of 1x4 lumber (8 feet each)
- Wood glue
- Screws (2.5" and 1.5")
- Wood filler
- Sandpaper (120-grit and 220-grit)
- Stain or paint (optional)
- Polyurethane
- Table legs (4 pieces)
- Clamps
- Measuring tape
- Pencil
- Circular saw
- Drill
- Sander
Step 1: Design and Measure
Before you start cutting, decide on the dimensions of your coffee table. For a standard size, we recommend a top that's 48" long and 24" wide. Cut your 2x4 lumber into the following pieces:
- Two pieces at 48" for the table's length
- Two pieces at 24" for the table's width
Step 2: Assemble the Frame
Lay out your 2x4 pieces to form a rectangle. Apply wood glue to the ends of each piece, then clamp them together. Drill pilot holes and secure the joints with 2.5" screws. Allow the glue to dry completely.

Step 3: Add Support
Cut your 1x4 lumber into four pieces, each 23.5" long. These will serve as supports for your marble top. Attach them to the inside of the frame using 1.5" screws, spacing them evenly apart.
Step 4: Prepare the Marble Top
Have your marble slab cut to the desired dimensions (48" x 24") if it's not already. Ensure the edges are polished and smooth. Measure and mark the center of the slab's length and width to help with positioning on the table frame.
Step 5: Attach the Marble Top
Carefully place the marble slab onto the supports, aligning it with the center marks. You can use small pieces of wood or spacers to ensure the top is level. Once you're satisfied with the position, secure the marble to the supports using wood glue and clamps. Allow it to dry completely.

Step 6: Finish the Table
Fill any holes or gaps with wood filler, allow it to dry, then sand the entire table using 120-grit sandpaper. For a smoother finish, sand again with 220-grit. If desired, stain or paint the table, then apply a layer of polyurethane for protection. Allow it to dry completely.
Step 7: Attach the Legs
Attach your table legs to the bottom of the frame, ensuring they're evenly spaced and level. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for attaching the legs.
