Create Your Own Rustic Charm: Free DIY Farmhouse Table Plans

Gather Your Materials and Tools
Before you start, ensure you have all the necessary materials and tools. Here's a list to help you get started:
- 2x4 lumber (for the legs and aprons)
- 2x6 lumber (for the tabletop)
- 2.5" and 1.25" pocket hole screws
- Wood glue
- Stain (optional)
- Saw (circular saw, miter saw, or handsaw)
- Drill and driver bits
- Pocket hole jig (like the Kreg Jig)
- Clamps
- Safety gear (glasses, gloves, and ear protection)
Design Your Farmhouse Table
First, decide on the size of your table. For this guide, we'll use a 72" x 36" table, which is a popular size for dining rooms. You can adjust the dimensions to fit your space.
Table Legs
Cut four 2x4 boards to 32" long for the table legs. You can leave them as is or add a slight taper for a more rustic look. To create the taper, cut the bottom of each leg at a 10-degree angle.
Aprons and Supports
Next, cut the aprons and supports from 2x4 lumber:
- Four 36" pieces for the aprons
- Two 72" pieces for the long supports
- Two 32" pieces for the short supports
Using a pocket hole jig, drill pocket holes on the inner side of the aprons and supports. These will be used to attach the aprons to the legs and the supports to each other.
Assemble the Table Base
With your pocket holes drilled, it's time to assemble the table base. Apply wood glue to the joints and use 2.5" pocket hole screws to attach the aprons to the legs. Ensure the table is square by measuring diagonally from corner to corner – the measurements should be equal.
Attach the long and short supports to each other using 1.25" pocket hole screws. Apply glue to the joints for added strength. Once the supports are attached, secure them to the aprons using 2.5" pocket hole screws.
Build the Tabletop
For the tabletop, you'll need eight 2x6 boards, each cut to 72" long. Arrange the boards side by side, ensuring they're flush with each other. Apply wood glue between the boards and clamp them together.
Drill pocket holes on the underside of the tabletop, about 3" from the edges. Use 2.5" pocket hole screws to attach the boards to each other. Allow the glue to dry completely before removing the clamps.
Attach the Tabletop to the Base
Flip the table base upside down. Center the tabletop on the base and attach it using 2.5" pocket hole screws through the supports and into the tabletop. Ensure the table is level and square.
Finishing Touches
Sand any rough edges and apply stain or paint to achieve your desired look. Allow the finish to dry completely before using your new farmhouse table.
