How Much Do New Kitchen Cabinets and Countertops Cost in 2024?

Upgrading your kitchen with new cabinets and countertops can transform both the look and functionality of your home. But understanding the cost is essential before starting your renovation project. With a wide range of materials, styles, and finishes available, kitchen cabinets and countertops vary significantly in price. This guide breaks down current costs and key influencing factors to help you plan a realistic budget.

Average Cost of Kitchen Cabinets

Kitchen cabinets typically range from $15 to $120 per linear foot, depending on materials and craftsmanship. Basic solid wood or MDF cabinets fall on the lower end, costing $15–$35 per linear foot, while high-end custom wood or European-style cabinets can exceed $80–$120 per foot. Installation adds another 10–20% to the total, making cabinet costs a major part of your kitchen budget.

Countertop Cost Variations

Countertops represent one of the largest expenses in a kitchen renovation, averaging $40 to $120 per square foot. Popular options like quartz and granite range from $70–$150 per sq ft, offering durability and aesthetic appeal. Natural stone such as marble or quartzite may cost $100–$200 per sq ft, while laminate and butcher block provide more affordable alternatives between $20–$60 per sq ft. The choice affects both upfront investment and long-term maintenance.

Key Factors Influencing Total Cost

Several elements determine your final kitchen cabinet and countertop expense. The size of the kitchen and number of fixtures directly impact material and labor needs. Custom designs with unique shapes or finishes increase costs, while standard sizes and off-the-shelf products tend to be more budget-friendly. Location and labor rates also play a role—urban areas often see higher pricing—and additional features like soft-close drawers or integrated lighting further affect the total.

Planning Your Kitchen Renovation Budget

To stay on track, estimate cabinet and countertop costs at $3,000 to $12,000 for a standard kitchen renovation. This range covers mid-quality materials and professional installation. Always include a 10–15% contingency fund for unexpected expenses. Comparing quotes from local contractors and sourcing materials in bulk can help control costs without sacrificing quality. With careful planning, your new kitchen can deliver lasting value and style within your budget.

Understanding the cost of new kitchen cabinets and countertops empowers homeowners to make informed decisions. From material choices to customization levels, each factor shapes the overall investment. By planning ahead and balancing quality with practicality, you can achieve a beautifully designed kitchen that enhances both form and function for years to come.
