When your BMW back door resists opening, issues like a stuck lock mechanism, faulty key cylinder, or corrupted electronic key system often play a role. In colder climates, moisture or freezing can also cause mechanical delays. Identifying whether the problem is mechanical or electronic is key to effective resolution.

Begin by verifying the key is fully inserted and turning the lock smoothly. If resistance remains, try cleaning the keyway with a dry cloth and gently wiggling the key. For electronic doors, ensure the fuse is intact and check for error lights on the dashboard. Resetting the key system through the vehicle’s menu or manual reset procedure often resolves glitches without repair.

Hi All, Got a G30 530E, rear left door suddenly stopped opening from inside or outside. As advised on the Forum i had tried to lock unlock for the last month, hopping it might just work for one day and i can get the panel out once the door is open. Well that didn't happen and decided to go.

On the rear passenger door, there will be times (maybe about 1 in 10) where my rear passenger cannot open the door even though it's unlocked. I've tried re-locking and unlocking the door, and it doesn't seem like this helps. I have to reach over and open the door from inside, and then it's fine for several days or even a couple of weeks.
So, the rear passenger door on my 118i won't open from inside or out, but outside handle still has some resistance while inside handle is just flapping around. Went to a local garage earlier and they're going to take a closer look next week but wondering/hoping if anyone here has an idea on the issue, potential fixes, etc. Videos here.
I have a '24 and have same issue. Seems the door gets confused and has to cycle through and lock and unlock its self and finally actually open on the third pull. Fortunately I don't access the rear doors on a daily basis so I will address this issue when I take the vehicle to the dealership for its first service.
