The first M3 was introduced in 1985, based on the second-generation 3 Series (E30). THE MODEL The original BMW M3 (E30) was built for homologation purposes to qualify for DTM (German Touring Car) racing. It was the start of the legendary M3 line for BMW that continues today. The S14 engine was a tour de force based upon the S38 6-cylinder engine and had a redline of 7250rpm.
Only 5300 E30 M3's were imported to the US during it's production run. The E30 M3 won the 24 Hours.
