Bmw E39 Ground Locations

My BMW is a 1998 E39 528i, would you mind taking a picture and posting where your ground straps are located at? I shot this video for E39 Owners that need to locate 3 of the grounding points under the hood for clean up. Location Queens N.Y.

Here's a pic from an e38 740. Same generation and some similarities shared with the e39. See below his pinky? It shows a brown/black eyelet ground wire attached to 1 of the 3 studs that hold the airbag module (same module in e39M5).

Given what Clemster says about the scarcity of these eyelets, it's possible this is where yours also attaches. Most BMW chassis grounds are made at comb connectors, which collect a number of ground circuits to make a single mechanical/electrical connection to the body. Virtually all of those connectors are tucked away in locations that are convenient only to the needs of the design, requiring sometimes substantial disassembly just to see them, let alone.

The locations of the ground cables will vary depending on your BMW's year and model. You should consult a repair manual or other reputable source to locate your exact model's ground cables or do some exploring under the hood. The ETM is the bona fide BMW Electrical Troubleshooting Manual.

Ranks right up next to the Bentley in terms of quality info. (Occasionally surpasses, but the Bentley has a wider range of info.) When fighting electrical gremlins, the ETM and a voltmeter are your best weapons, and occasionally your best defense. One item to keep in mind.

Occasionally it benefits to view the ETM from the model. The one on the bottom is for the dip stick bracket. The other two are likely for the oil filter housing.
