Hobby Bench ("we", "our", "the app") is a miniature painting companion app. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
1. Data We Collect
Account data
- When you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name and email from the provider. We store a display name and profile picture URL in our database.
- If you do not sign in, we create an anonymous session identifier to enable community features. This identifier is not linked to your real identity.
Content you create
- Photos & analyses are stored locally on your device in a private SQLite database. They are never uploaded unless you explicitly share a mini to the community.
- Community posts — when you share a mini, the photo, title, score, and your display name are stored on our servers (Supabase).
- Profile information — display name, avatar image, public/private preference, and medal progress.
Usage data
- Studio Insight usage counts (to enforce fair-use quotas).
- Medal progress counters (number of analyses, shares, etc.).
- We do not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs.
2. How We Use Your Data
- To provide app functionality: analysis, community feed, profiles, and medals.
- To enforce usage quotas and prevent abuse.
- To display your profile to other users (if set to public).
- To moderate community content (reports, content filtering).
3. Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored on Supabase (hosted on AWS). All communication uses HTTPS/TLS encryption. Row-level security policies ensure users can only access their own data. Photos are stored in Supabase Storage with access controls.
Local data (analyses, paint inventory, preferences) is stored on-device using SQLite and MMKV and never leaves your device unless you choose to share.
4. Third-Party Services
- Supabase — database, authentication, file storage, and serverless functions.
- RevenueCat — subscription management. RevenueCat receives a pseudonymous user ID and purchase receipts. See RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.
- Google Gemini API — used for Studio Insight (AI-powered painting tips). Your miniature photo is sent to Google's servers for analysis. See Google's Privacy Policy.
- Apple / Google Sign-In — authentication providers. We receive only your name and email.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with advertisers or data brokers.
5. Data Retention
- Account data is retained as long as your account exists.
- Community posts remain visible until you delete them or delete your account.
- Anonymous session data may be purged after 90 days of inactivity.
6. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your data — view your profile and posts within the app.
- Delete your account and all associated data from Settings.
- Correct your display name and profile picture at any time.
- Restrict visibility by setting your profile to private.
- Request a copy of your data by contacting us.

7. Children's Privacy
Hobby Bench is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through an in-app notice. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
