Most will probably say Generations and while its great for 90% of the game, the final level (from colors coincidentally) is long and arduous. The final boss is some bullshit too. Colors has wisps and they are loved/hated in the fandom.

The game itself feels like a mix of fast levels and semi challenging platforming. In this video I took 4 games and made a comparison. Sonic Colors (Dolphin),Sonic Forces, Sonic Generations and Sonic Colors Ultimate by Gamespot was also inc.

Frontiers: Worst game". Generations has always been considered a good sonic game, since release, by the mainstream. The primary group who complains about it are among those who preferred a different style of game to begin with, i.e.
some (but not all) fans of the adventure style games. I'm playing Sonic Colors right now and I don't know exactly what it is but I felt like Sonic handled a lot better in Generations as opposed to Colors. Well Colors at least didn't make the characters a bunch of petty a-holes, cowards or idiots. Compare that to Lost World, Forces and even the Sonic Boom games. Again, still more tolerable than the Meta Era Sonic content we've gotten since 2013.
The best case scenario we can hope for is that SEGA learns from the backlash of Origins & Sonic Colors Ultimate either goes for a simple port to modern systems or just leaves the old Sonic Generations listed alongside the remade version and make everyone happy (though corporations hate doing that so it's highly unlikely that will happen). For Sonic Mania on the PlayStation 4, a GameFAQs message board topic titled "Sonic colors vs Generations?".
