Just servicing the valve covers a couple times can strip these front 6 bolt holes in the best of circumstances. Luckily coiling them is very straightforward and effective if they do strip. Valve cover nuts, they are m6-10mm wrench or socket size--6.5-7 ft-lbs or ~ 72-84 inch-lbs,follow the torque sequence as well.
Last edited by 320iAman; 03-31-2014 at 08:12 PM. When working on these valve covers follow the above tightening sequence and apply black RTV sealant to the timing cover seams and rear half. I just purchased an oil/air cooled 2013 R1200GS with 5000 miles on it.

Straightforward replacement, until it came to torque down the valve cover again. My handy-dandy Haynes manual told me 18 lb-ft on the valve cover bolts. So, I set the torque wrench to 18, and get on the first bolt.

14,000 miles ago I installed new valve cover gaskets on my N62 engine of my 4.8i. The torque spec is 10nm I believe. I think I torqued only to 7.
