Re: Strange Panda Cory color change by zurikitty13 Fri Jun 03, 2016 12:54 am A lot of cories change color actually depending on a few factors. I've seen that my cories change color depending on two things: health and surroundings. When cories are underneath darker substrate, they will try to camouflage by changing color slightly.
I've kept several Cory species over the years and Panda Cory can be a challenge. I've lost them gradually in tanks that had excellent water quality where Sterbai, Albino, and Black Cory were thriving and spawning. From my experience they don't handle transport very well at all. They seem to get stressed more easily than other Cory Catfish species.
One of the panda cories that I got just about 2 weeks ago has recently started losing pigment and acting lethargic. I noticed it for the first time today, but could have been gradually getting worse over a few days.
Other Cory's are 3 pandas, 2 emerald and 2 Melini's. Sort of isolated because he isn't moving around the tank much at all. Acting lethargic. Moved to a tub with tank water, heater and sponge filter for now. Tried feeding and ignoring the food. His face is bulging and looks much different then he did a few days ago.

I have a 10G planted tank with 8 ember tetras and 4 panda corys. I have had trouble keeping the corys, I first got 5 of them about 2 months ago and lost 3 within the first week. I got two more about 10 days ago after things seemed to stabilize. One of the pandas today has turned very pale and basically lost all its color.

There was also ~7-8 months between the pale pygmae corys dying and the first panda fry looking pale and lethargic. So I accept there's a good chance the two issues are unrelated.
