According to the Book of Mormon, Jesus offered an atonement for the sins of the world because of His "bowels of mercy; being filled with compassion towards the children of men" (Mosiah 15:9). As for the good Samaritan, the "Greek word literally says that the Samaritan's bowels were moved with deep, inner sympathy.
