I'm off to buy some engine paint this week so was hoping to extract some advise from the crowd. My thoughts original black (I am trying to keep my restoration somewhat stock). The cool blues.
Engine Paint Color Guide. Muscle Car Restorations shows you how to properly paint your Mopar engine and how to determine the correct factory color. What are the paint codes for? We have them all here.
Every manufacturer from A to Z, plus fleet color from Semi's and National Standard company's paint codes. If we don't have it, we will get it. The engine should have been painted black.
The only other color AMC used was a special AMC-blue. I believe all the V8s were painted this color, and I've seen some 232s painted with the blue as well. I've never seen a 258 that wasn't black.
Aluminum parts were left bare. IMHO, even a "total restore" should include some minor upgrades such as replacing the plastic valve cover with an aftermarket. The engine in front of the white cherokee is the later color while the engine in front of the orange cherokee is Seymour EN66. Picture courtesy of CheapJeepBrad. Motor Coater brand Engine Enamel for the 1973 to 1981 Jeep CJ in Engine Blue is the closest to OEM you can get.
We have tried every option out there, even mixing colors and spraying with a gun, this little can still beats it by a mile. Blue was the orig color for AMC engines and I like the Chrysler light blue as you can easily spot oil leaks. Also, makes engine compartment look "cleaner" and brighter.
I have a 304 that we are rebuilding and was wondering what color I should paint it. Origiinally it is the AMC blue, the jeep will be repained to a dark red. I was thinking red engine, or black engine, or possibly go back to the blue.
What do you think? I am up for other colors also... If.
