Understanding the Hardwood Floor Refinishing Process
Hardwood floor refinishing involves several steps, each crucial to the final outcome. Here's a simplified breakdown:
- Preparation: The area is cleared, and furniture is moved out. The floor is then cleaned thoroughly to remove dirt, dust, and debris.
- Sanding: This step involves using heavy-duty sanders to remove the old finish and smooth out any imperfections. The process starts with coarse grit sandpaper and progresses to finer grits for a smooth finish.
- Staining (Optional): If you're looking to change the color of your hardwood floors, this is the step where stain is applied. It's crucial to choose a stain that complements your space and furniture.
- Sealing: Once the stain has dried, a protective sealant is applied. This could be a polyurethane, varnish, or wax, depending on your preference and the desired finish.
