Ditra Heat Wire Spacing
A cable spacing of 3 studs between runs is standard. However, cable may also be spaced at continuously alternating 3 stud 2 stud intervals in isolated areas or over the entire floor. Heating cables are limited to a minimum space of 2 from walls, partitions, and fixed cabinets, 8 from any heat source, and 4 from plumbing drains. Cables should also not be run underneath any cabinets or furniture. Minimum spacing from other heat sources (baseboard heaters, other fixed heating devices, fireplaces, etc.) is 8" (200 mm).
Minimum spacing from any plumbing drain and forced air heating duct is 4" (100 mm). DITRA-HEAT-PS and DITRA-HEAT-DUO-PS membranes are waterproof when joints are properly sealed with KERDI-BAND, therefore peel-and-stick membranes are suitable for use in a bathroom/wet room if meeting specifications ANSI A118.10 is not required. Heating Cable When choosing the appropriate heating cable(s) size(s), please consider whether you require 3 stud cable spacing or alternating 3-2 stud cable spacing.
For most applications Ditra recommends using three knob spacing which works out to 3.5" on-center spacing. This spacing when used with our cables works out to 13.53 Watts per SF which is a comfortable output well suited for toasty floors and a primary heat source in many parts of the country. Combining Cables he total current is less than 15 amps. This work must be performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with ap le DITRA-HEAT-E-RT/-RSD/-R thermostat. Additional DITRA-HEAT-E-RT/-RSD/-R thermostats must be used or the DITRA-HEAT-E-RT/-R may be combined
