Kay Smith, the wife of Calvary Chapel movement founder Chuck Smith, died this past week at the age of 94. Chuck preceded his wife in death at age 86 in October 2013. Kay Smith lived for 70 years in Lincoln Park, in a Victorian rowhouse which served as her studio and gallery. She died there after a year in hospice care due to a heart condition. As a friend and mentor, Kay Smith made an indelible impact on Kathy.
But Kay also became a key figure amid a tremendous outpouring of Gods Spirit. Her life was one of faithful, loving, service to those inside and outside the Church. Kay Smith, known as "KC," was declared braindead on Sept.

Kay has exhibited in numerous venues, including the Executive Mansion in Springfield, IL, the Pritzker Military Museum and Library in Chicago, IL and Yorktown Victory Center in Virginia. Now well into her 90s and still painting, Kay is a national treasure as an artist and historian. At the age of 73, Smith was struck by GuillainBarr syndrome which left her almost paralyzed.
After rehabilitation, her daughter encouraged her to keep painting. She was still taking commissions after turning 90. [1][7] She died in Chicago on , at the age of 101.
