These maps show reported Lyme disease cases for three timepoints: 2023, 2010, and 1995. Since 1995, the range of Lyme disease cases in the United States has expanded significantly. Cases are reported from the infected persons county of residence (where known), not necessarily the place where the person was infected.
For example, in a July 2018 report (page 7), Quest Diagnostics showed an increase in Florida Lyme cases from 283 in 2015 to 501 in 2017, representing a 77% increase. In contrast, the CDC only reported 166 Florida Lyme cases in 2015 and 210 in 2017. Why are the CDCs numbers for Florida so much lower than Quest, a single lab?
