Maytag Gemini Double Oven Self Cleaning Instructions

The top oven of the Maytag Gemini may not open while cooking because the oven is in a self-clean cycle. During this cycle, both ovens lock automatically for safety and will not unlock until the oven has cooled down and the cycle is complete. To self-clean a Maytag Gemini electric double oven, press the Clean button.

Select a cycle time based on the ovens cleanliness level. If needed, press the Start button to begin cleaning. Check your models user instructions for specific details, as features may vary between model variations.

Always ensure the oven doors are completely closed before starting the self-cleaning cycle. The self-cleaning cycle uses very high temperatures to burn soil to ash, so do not touch the oven during the cycle, and keep children away to prevent burns. Do not let food sit in oven more than one hour before or after cooking.

For best results, cooking should be done on one rack in the upper oven and one rack in the lower oven. Simply remove all the racks from your oven and close the door. Then, press the clean button for the oven you wish to clean.

Set the timer, and press start; it will initiate a cleaning cycle. How long should the time be set for? One hour or more? It won't allow you to set it for that short. Preparation is key to ensuring a successful self-cleaning experience.

Begin by removing all items from the oven, including oven racks, baking dishes, and any aluminum foil. These items can warp or discolor in the intense heat generated during the self-cleaning cycle. Before you start the self-cleaning process, you want to remove the oven racks, broiler pan, grid, cookware and bakeware out of the oven.

Make sure to remove any aluminum foil that is in your oven, as well. Don't move or clean the door gasket, but you can manually clean the door edge. The oven racks will discolor and may not slide easily after a self-clean cycle if they are not removed.Clean oven frame, door frame, area outside of gasket, and around the opening in the door gasket with a nonabrasive cleaner such as Bon Ami* or detergent and water.

First, prepare the oven by removing the broiler pan and oven racks, as well as any cookware, bakeware or utensils. Then, wipe out loose soils and close the oven door completely before selecting and starting the self-cleaning cycle. Follow these four steps to run a self-clean cycle.

To clean the sealed burners, allow them to cool completely, then remove the burner caps and grates. Use a non-abrasive cleaner and a sponge or soft cloth to wipe away any spills or residue.
