National Biodefense Science Board
The NBSB advises HHS on public health emergency preparedness and response. Stay informed about upcoming board meetings and key discussions. The NBSB will meet in public (virtually) on , to provide advice and recommendations to ASPR regarding the development of the 2023-2026 National Health Security Strategy and to discuss other matters of current important for public health emergency preparedness, response, and recovery.
The Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR), part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), is currently seeking applications from qualified individuals to fill 7 vacancies on the National Biodefense Science Board (NBSB). Any Federal Government employee may be detailed to the Board with the approval for the contributing agency without reimbursement, and such detail shall be without interruption or loss of civil service status or privilege.
B will directly facilitate the mission of HHS by providing expert, independent advice and recommendations to the Secretary and/or ASPR. After being presented with information on the possible topics that they were considering, the NBSB voted for 4 specific topics and formed subcommittees for each.
At the request of the Secretary and/or ASPR, the Board shall provide recommendations and findings for expanded, intensified, and coordinated biodefense research and development activities. This article also includes an updated assessment of the proportion of biodefense funding provided for programs that address multiple scientific, public health, healthcare, national security, and international security issues in addition to biodefense.
