A map claiming to show the areas of the US that may be targeted in a nuclear war that originally circulated in 2015 is making the rounds again, amid the Russian war in Ukraine. This four-minute audio-visual piece is based on independent assessments of current U.S.

This simulator maps the effect of a single nuclear bomb on an individual target. Using open-source physics and weapon models, it provides a simplified view of the aftermath of the detonation. A nuclear attack on US soil would most likely target one of six cities: New York, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, or Washington, DC.

It allows a user to simulate a nuclear detonation (with several possible parameters, including explosive yield and height of burst) anywhere on the world.
