I'm 5'8" and an advanced skier that gets out 2-3 trips per season enjoying all-mountain style of skiing. The Sky 7 gleans its versatility from a 95mm waist width that's not too fat to handle hardpack days, nor too skinny to float the occasional knee-deep pow; it sits right in the middle of powdery beefiness and speedy skinniness. Its pretty apparent, and sets the Sky 7 W apart in a competitive field of ~98 underfoot all-mountain skis.
Darcy Mangan skied the 164 and found it to be the right length. She had a lot of high scores; all 4s for flotation, quickness, playfulness, versatility, and overall impression. The Sky is a very different animal from the strong, edgy models that took the top two rankings.
Its a surfer and a slasher, far more interested in soft snow than hard. Looser in the snow, its easier to pivot and foot-steer. That opens up creativity in line choices.
One of the most fun womens skis in the sport returns unchanged for 2019-20, save for a sleek topsheet redesign. The Sky 7 HD W effortlessly blends nimble and lightweight performance with exceptional powder surf and all-mountain versatility. It lacks a little in edge hold - maybe partly due to the lightness, but that also helps its agility.
A compromise that will suit some more than others. The bottom line is we really liked this ski and could happily ride it all day. With a touring binding the Sky 7 HD would be superb on a powder day.
I demoed the Sky 7 HD 2018 and own the 2018 Pandora 110mm. Liked the Rossi's in powder and soft snow, but found them quite a lot of work on groomers - I vastly prefer the Pandoras, even at 110mm.
