The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has initiated the multi-phased U.S. 301 expansion in Sumter County, signalling a critical move to upgrade the states mid-corridor logistics network. U.S.
301 Widening Northern Segment (430132-5) Complete design late 2026 Construction expected to start summer 2027 Estimated construction cost = $67 million Currently in the construction phase, the project began on and is expected to be completed by Fall 2028. Set to stretch 4.2 miles in length, the undertaking is projected to cost a total of $86.8 million.
With a $26-million price tag, the project will be done in three segments between County Road 470 in Sumterville and the Florida Turnpike in Wildwood. Property acquisition has begun and construction is expected to start early next year.
