Was A Javelin Left On The Moon
On Apollo 14, Ed Mitchell made the only "javelin" throw on the moon when he tossed an unneeded metal rod. Photo (AS14-66-9337) of the lunar surface taken during the Apollo 14 mission. The Apollo program's six landing sites on the Moon's near side.
Twenty-eight people have traveled to the vicinity of the Moon, including 12 who landed and walked on the surface. T Just to the left of center lies the "javelin", with the golf ball just below it, almost perpendicular to it.
Dark colored trails are the results of tracks made by the lunar overshoes of the... While Joness project cataloged astronaut activities on the lunar surface, this journal, supplemented by numerous contributors from around the world, covers all portions of the crewed Apollo flights that did not take place on the Moon. The camera had been bolted to the lunar module and would have been left on the moon if Mitchell hadn't removed it.
A view from the Apollo 14 lunar module showing a javelin thrown at the same point in the mission to the left of center, with one of Shepard's golf balls below it. Because some 230,000 miles away, Alan Shepard was playing golf on the moon. Beamed back to TV sets on Earth in grainy images, Shepards exploits on Apollo 14 the eighth crewed Apollo mission...
But the actual distance of this second shot has been the subject of much conjecture and analysis by historians and physics experts over the years. Only finding the ball, either by returning to the moon, or with photographic evidence, can solve the mystery. Unlike Earth, the moon lacks wind, water, and atmospheric disturbances, meaning the artifacts left by the Apollo astronauts remain in pristine condition.
Humans have so far left more than 187,400kg of material on the Moon, including a javelin, an olive branch made of gold, five American flags, four armrests and 96 bags of human waste.
