Why Doesn't God Do Anything
Billy Graham My Answer Q: I'm about to give up on God. I've prayed and prayed for Him to take away my problems, but nothing has changed. Why doesn't God do something? I thought He was supposed to care about us.
But to think He isnt doing anythingto think God doesnt careis simply not true. He is still just as much in the details and the outcome of our lives as He was in Bible times. The stories we read in Scripture arent just there for our entertainment, but to remind us that He is still working.
What God has decreed will come to pass. Even when it feels to our senses that God is not doing anything, he is always continuing to work all things according to the counsel of his will, for his will never rests and never stops progressing toward his own great and glorious ends. This is a common misconception opponents of Christianity have, but, no, God cannot do anything and everything.
Technically, God can do all logically feasible things that are consistent with His character. Why doesnt God do something? If He is really sovereign and ruler over all the earthand He certainly iswhy doesnt He avenge people whove been wronged? He has the power and the wisdom to do so. Hes proved He loves us to the bitter end, by dying on the cross for our sins (John 13:1).
Whenever we wonder why you dont do something, remind us what we are supposed to do. And when we ask, why would God do that? remind us that your ways are not our ways. Perhaps you, like many, sometimes wonder about the things of injustice and why God doesnt intervene.
In these two stories that almost certainly happened in Jerusalem, Jesus did nothing about them. Many wonder why God doesnt do more to alleviate suffering, and to promote happiness and well-being. If God is good, this must surely mean that His desire for us is good.
He clearly should want to see the men and women He has created to be happy and doing well in life. With this in mind, Mark is writing to provide hope. The Christians in Rome, no doubt, are asking why God doesn't do something to prove to them and to the Roman world the Christian faith is real.
Q: Is God limited in any wayin other words, are there some things God can't do? I wonder about this because there seems to be so much evil in the world, and I don't understand why God doesn't do something about it if He is really all-powerful.
