"why" can be compared to an old Latin form qui, an ablative form, meaning how. Today "why" is used as a question word to ask the reason or purpose of something. This use might be explained from a formula such as "How does it come that ...".

Why is it that children require so much attention? Why is it [or some thing] like that? Why should, asks what you think are aspects or POTENTIAL aspects of the career that would cause a young professional to desire it.
If this was a conversation as to how to increase the number of people in the field the answer could include aspects that do not currently exist. While the aspect could exist in potential, it would have to be real. In the sentence "Why is this here?", is "why" an adverb? What part of speech is "why?" I think it modifies the verb "is", so I think it is an adverb.
For why' can be idiomatic in certain contexts, but it sounds rather old-fashioned. Googling 'for why' (in quotes) I discovered that there was a single word 'forwhy' in Middle English. So, what, the different between "b" and "p" is supposed to have something to do with how the noise is formed in the throat area (in the larynx)? For me it's purely an airflow thing - "b" builds up pressure behind the lips which stops building the moment the lips are opened, while "p" keeps the airflow going a moment after the lips are opened up.
This answer doesn't seem to make sense. (US ... Since we can say "Why can we grow taller?", "Why cannot we grow taller?" is a logical and properly written negative.
We don't say "Why we can grow taller?" so the construct should not be "Why we cannot grow taller?" The reason is that auxiliaries should come before the subject to make an interrogative. Why have a letter in a word when its silent in pronunciation, like the b in debt? Can anyone please clarify my uncertainty here?
