Base case is a modest EPS beat (Q1 bar set low/conservative, especially on AST) with full-year FY27 guidance simply reaffirmed rather than raised — a 'beat-and-reaffirm' that should produce a small positive pop given how much AST-destocking/tariff pessimism is already in the stock after the June low and the July 28 dividend/buyback-driven re-rate. But because management explicitly front-loaded caution into 1H (AST guided soft in Q1/Q2, needing a 'significantly improving Q3' and 'pretty easy Q4 comps' to hit the 7-8% full-year AST target), any Q1 AST organic print near the low single digits forces analysts to model a steeper 2H AST ramp to keep FY27 numbers intact. That out-period math (higher implied H2 AST growth requirement, tax-rate step-up to ~25%, and no visible raise to the $11.10-$11.30 EPS range despite the Q1 beat) tends to get partially unwound over the following days as sell-side notes flag the back-half-loaded risk, producing a fade rather than a durable follow-through, even though a clean beat keeps the drawdown modest versus the initial reaction. |
