Buying a used 1 series (2011-2013 model years). Advice? Hi everyone, I'm thinking of buying a new car, and the 1 series has really piqued my interest. More specifically, I am interested in a model which has the n55 engine (from what I've heard its more reliable, and I'm not looking to mod so tunability doesn't really factor in for me).

How are the 1 series, specifically the 116i and 118i in terms of reliability? At around 10 to 12k miles per year. I'm aiming for nice motoring with yearly service and not having constant repairs. Anybody in the BMW world able to share their experiences? UPDATE: Thanks for the comment.

Just having a look the most recent reliabillity survery from whatcar and apparently the previous gen (2011-2019) BMW 1 series is the most reliable car they surved out of 37 other family cars, beating out toyota's honda's etc. What do you guys think, does this make sense or their methodology wrong is some way? I would say avoid the 116i or 118i with the 1.6 4 cyclinder petrol engine pre 2015. Every thing else is all pretty good, the manual gear box is quite notchy, most prefer the 8 speed auto.
