The word custom is a pretty loose term, my recent adventures to the USA with the BMW Chopper showcases the extreme end of customisation. On the opposite end of the scale sits my newly completed BMW R18 which uses a completely different set of ideals to achieve a custom outcome.

Riding a motorcycle is a []. That's the idea behind this uber-slick BMW R18. Created by the Munich workshop MOTOISM, in collaboration with Arjan van den Boom of Ironwood Motorcycles fame, it wears a brand new bolt-on custom kit with a handful of swanky off-the-shelf parts.

Nothing's been hacked, welded or rewired here, but the results are still radikal. Each part in the kit was either 3D-printed, made from carbon fiber. NMoto and renowned customizer Zillers Garage team up to offer a curvaceous custom based on the new BMW R 18 model.

It's available for purchase as a kit. In every part of this custom build, the balance of modern performance and classic style was at the forefront. Using a gutted and reimagined R18 headlight, TIG-welded fender brackets, and a single-stage black paint job with silver leaf accents, the final result-dubbed "Dolly"-was an ode to BMW's history blended with a touch of modern.

The Distinguished Brute by Stoos Customs is a testament to the potential of the BMW R 18 platform. This custom build merges brutal simplicity with refined craftsmanship, creating a motorcycle that stands out not just in South Africa, but globally. The first thing was to remove all the components of this custom BMW R18 just out of the official BMW motorcycle dealer.

Once naked, we studied the possibilities and basically the geometry of the chassis and the type of fuel tank makes it clear that this bike can be modified in many ways, but the best style that can be given is that of a Bobber bike. The BMW R18 comes equipped with the largest boxer engine the brand ever made - a 1,800 cc making 91 hp and 150 Nm of torque between 2,000 to 4,000 rpm. It has a nickel-plated open exposed shaft just like BMW used to build before the '55s and a self-reinforcing anti-hopping clutch to help the rear wheel's traction when downshifting hard.
