BMW M8 Forum and 8 Series Forum BMW M8 and 8-Series General Discussion M850i Reliability? It took local techs and BMW technical analysts nearly three days to troubleshoot that and ultimately make some sort of software adjustment. Now, the wi-fi hotspot works just fine (though I'll rarely, if ever, use it), the other telematics features seem more consistent, and the Connected Drive apps still aren't appearing.

E31 owner here. depends on what you want. most people look for an automatic E31, if thats the case, get an 840 (5 speed a/t) just make sure its an Alusil block.

the cars are really reliable aside from a couple of things -- the transmissions, they need to be serviced every 80K and NO ONE does it because BMW says its lifetime fluid. if the car you're looking at shifts a-ok, take it straight to. I'm also in my 20s and on my second 8 series lol and I love it so much! Switched from an 840i coupe to an m850i gran coupe a few weeks ago and it was the best decision I ever made.
