I'm planning to replace our existing kitchen and am 95% sure the new cabinetry will come from Ikea. I used it a few year ago in our laundry room and am overall happy with it and am familiar with the build installation process but a kitchen is a much bigger job. People of Reddit who installed an Ikea kitchen please tell me what you learned? What would you repeat? What would you do differently.

The IKEA kitchen person said that fridge and oven next to each other was not a problem, so went with that We considered having a "tower" on each side, but when we looked at the design, it was bit too bombastic for my taste. I am still at initial planning phase. I would appreciate everyone's two cents on rookie errors, any regrets you've had with Ikea kitchens and reccomdations of specific products when it comes to the design, fit out of appliances/interior of cupboard and choice of surfaces (laminate vs wood) etc. Between my wife and I we worked in the IKEA kitchens department for 18 years, and installed 4 IKEA kitchen remodels.

We're both pretty handy though, and can do basic carpentry, plumbing, tiling and electrical work ourselves. I don't touch copper lines or HVAC though! Any specific questions? Otherwise in general spend the time making 100% sure your feet, and suspension rails are square, plumb.
