In September 2003, the Roadster S was introduced at IAA 2003. The Roadster is based on the BMW Z4 3.0. It didn't replace any existing Alpina models as no Alpina version of the BMW Z3.

A remarkably rare sight on the road, this Alpina Roadster S is an outstanding example of the famed manufacturer's bespoke approach to BMW tuning. Based on the BMW Z4 (E85), the Alpina Roadster S was unveiled at the 2003 Frankfurt Motor Show and it is understood that some 2,000 modifications were made to the standard Z4, not always recognisable at first glance, but patently obvious once on the open road. Alpina-blue is used for the dials, with a contrasting red being used for the pointers.
