The Portal of Power included with Skylanders Swap Force is about half the height of the portal from the first two games. The design on the sides of the portal now feature the game's element symbols, and a stone archway motif that sets it apart visually from the other portals. So far all Portals are backwards compatible.

As with other console games, certain Skylanders titles are compatible with earlier games and releases. Skylanders Swap Force, released in 2013, is backward compatible with all previous games. I know the new Skylanders SWAP Force game comes with a new portal of power, since the old portals supposedly don't support the new SWAP-type figures.
My question is - will I still need to keep my old portal around for the previous games, or can I use the new portal for those as well? As well as a selection of new toys, Skylanders SWAP Force is also fully backwards compatible with all previously released Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure and Skylanders Giants figurines. On the other hand, a toy released with Skylanders SWAP Force will not work in Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure or Skylanders Giants, but will work in games released after Skylanders SWAP Force.
Keep in mind there are a few console. 2 Swap force Skylanders 1 air and or water vehicle 1 Sensei Skylander. Yeah I'd love to be able to play those management sims.
